I will also have you submit entries to Turnitin.com, but will assign later.
Due May 16 th 2012 for:
Part 1
An annotated bibliography is a bibliography with a summary of the article or book. It is
particularly helpful as a means of assessing the relevance of an article or book. Each
selection in an annotated bibliography is called an “annotation.”
The Task:
For this assignment, you will write 4 annotations. Each annotation will be two
paragraphs:
-The first paragraph will briefly describe the content of the article – what was the
article about? Be sure to summarize the ENTIRE source and not only one section. A
strong summary would also include the author’s most compelling argument(s) and
the best evidence offered as support for the author’s points.
-The second paragraph should describe the underlying values in the source. To do
this, you may need to describe the viewpoint of the author, and provide examples to
show how this viewpoint supports a certain value. If the author presents viewpoints
of other people or groups, briefly describe those viewpoints and explain what values
are underlying each. A strong summary would explain if the author presented the
issue accurately and fairly or distorted facts and arguments to support a certain
viewpoint. (100 points)
Values: Liberty, Equality, Justice, Common Good, Individualism
Part 2: May 23rd, 2012
What is the government’s response to your core political issue that you have chosen. In a, minimum, two page document please explain what are the leading laws written about your issue, explain how the executive branch is maintaining government intervention, and analyze why certain court decisions are the most important to your issue.
Part 3: June 6th, 2012
You are to write your final assessment of what needs to be done concerning your issue. You can choose either of two forms. The first is to submit your idea as an editorial or as a letter to a public official. Yes, these will be submitted to the actual places you have identified. Your identification of a proper person/institution is important. If you have an international issue and you submit it to the Norwalk Hour I might sense you are not taking this seriously. We can discuss what is more appropriate, but come prepared to make an informed decision. You will submit one copy of this with part one. You will also submit a stamped, addressed envelope (yes, with the editorial/letter in it!) that will be mailed.
Again, submit:
Cover page (stapled submission)
Part One
Four Annotations, with value evaluations.
Part Two
Legislative decisions
Executive actions/non-actions
Supreme Court Decisions (state-Federal)
Part Three
Letter/Editorial
Also,
Letter/editorial, in envelope, properly addressed, proper postage
This will be due Tuesday, June 6th, 2012, by the end of the school day (2:30). If you are sick, e-mail me at the school address, by 5pm Eastern standard time. Any problems with this project get a hold of me through Mybigcampus.com or [email protected].
If someone wants to present this information in a portfolio please submit idea (like in lets talk).
There will be 100 points for each assignment.
